How to control and manage the Ephestia elutella
The tobacco moth is a cosmopolitan species. Adult beetles are 5.0 to 7.0 mm long and are light to dark brown. Larvae infest various kinds of dried foods such as flour, cookie, milled cereals, pet foods and dried tobacco leaves. The larvae are most harmful pest in tobacco industries. Ephestia elutella pheromone lure and trap is the most safe way to control the pest.
Trap selection
The Ephestia elutella trap whole kit is most sensitive trap to use for monitoring and mass trapping tobacco moth.
Trap set up
Put the Ephestia elutella sex pheromone lure in the place of Ephestia elutella trap. Then the whole kit is set up.
Trap position
*Hang the traps on the wall or the suitable location.
*Desirable placement of trap is same high as goods in warehouse, 5·5 m apart.
*Place the traps away from manufacturing lines so as to avoid attracting adults that could contaminate the products.
*Traps should be placed at more than 10~20 m away from entrance to avoid attracting adults that are living out doors.
*Its useful life is one month after the trap is set up.
Lures handling
Pheromone lures are very sensitive tool. They can be affected by exposure to elevated heat and direct sunshine. Direct touching by hand may cause cross contamination leading to mixed catches in the trap. Some contaminants such as Nicotine may have repellent effect reducing trap catch.
Lure Storage
In cool dry place, the shelf life is 12 months.
In refrigerator under -5~-15 degree, the shelf life is 24 months up.
