How to control and manage the Webbing clothes moth (Tineola biselliella)

The webbing clothes moth larvae feed on wool, hair, feathers, furs, upholstered furniture, occasionally on dead insects, dry dead animals, animal and fish meals, milk powders such as casein, and nearly all animal products such as bristles, dried hair and leather. Adults do not eat.

Adult moths lay 100-150 eggs. The larvae is the damaging stage. They are white and vary in size from 1/16" when first hatched up to 1/3" when full grown. The length of the larval period depends largely on the environmental conditions and the quality of food.

Trap selection

The Warehouse pyralidae trap whole kit is most sensitive trap to use for monitoring webbing clothes moth.

Trap set up

Put the webbing clothes moth sex pheromone lure in the middle of Warehouse pyralidae trap. Then the whole kit is set up.

Trap position

This trap is placed on the floor, shelf or hanging indoors in closets and rooms where woolen, silk fabrics, furs, or items with feathers are stored. One trap per closet or storage room can attract and catch the male moths. This trap will act as an early warning tool to help prevent destruction of woolen items and other fabrics.

Care and disposal:
When an infestation is discovered, check all clothes and get infested textiles dry-cleaned. Vacuum the surrounding areas ( e.g. inside wardrobe, chest etc.) and thoroughly wash these if possible.

Tips :
*Sensitive fabrics can be packed into a plastic bag and left in the freezer for a week or so, killing any infestation.
*Use only one Trap for each cupboard. Use 2-3 for medium to large rooms.
Check weekly. Replace the trap when the sticky surface is covered in moths or at least every 6 weeks.
*It is possible to detect moth infestation early thanks to the long-lasting all year round application.

*Discard used Traps with normal household waste.

*Store any un-used Traps in a cool, dry place.

*Keep away from children and pets.

Lures handling

Pheromone lures are very sensitive tool. They can be affected by exposure to elevated heat and direct sunshine. Direct touching by hand may cause cross contamination leading to mixed catches in the trap. Some contaminants such as Nicotine may have repellent effect reducing trap catch.

Lure Storage

In cool dry place, the shelf life is 12 months.

In refrigerator under -5~-15 degree, the shelf life is 24 months up.
