Using instruction for Lobesia botrana mating disruption
【Product Features】Highly specific target action, Non-toxic and harmless, Easy to operate.
【Target pests】Lobesia botrana belonging to the order Lepidoptera and family Tortricidae, primarily infests grapevines but also damages blackberries, currants, olives, cherries, European plums, persimmons, kiwis, pomegranates, and various of Dianthus species. It is a significant quarantine pest in China and many other countries.
【Biological Characteristics】The Lobesia botrana has four life stages: egg, larva, pupa, and adult. The forewings of adult insects are brownish with grayish-blue, brown and black spots; hindwings are gray with striped edges. The back has two distinct brown, scale-covered horn-like protrusions. When wings are folded, the moth resembles an inverted bell. Females are slightly larger than males. The larvae have a total of 5 instages, newly hatched larvae are pale yellow, while mature larvae appear green or brown. Eggs laid singly, flat elliptical in shape. In the early stage of pupa, it appears cream-colored, light brown, light green or light blue, but turn brown or dark brown after several hours. Female pupa(the reproductive structure located on the 8th abdominal segment) are larger than male pupae (9th segment). The Lobesia botrana is a facultative diapause, multivoltine species, with generations varying by latitude and climate. In vineyards, they overwinter as pupae in bark crevices and trunk gaps. When temperatures reach 10°C, overwintering pupae emerge as adults and lay eggs 1 to 2 days after mating. The egg stage usually lasts for 3 to 5 days, the larval stage for about 20 to 30 days, and then matures and pupates. The next generation of adult insects will appear 6 to 14 days after pupation.
【Active Ingredient】Sex pheromone of Lobesia botrana
【Mode of action】The mating disruption technique releases high concentrations of Lobesia botrana sex pheromones in the field, masking female locations and disorienting males. This delays or prevents mating, drastically reducing viable eggs and suppressing pest population density, thereby achieving the purpose of pest control.
【Application Guidelines】
1. Hang dispensers on sturdy, well-ventilated branches in the upper-middle part of grapevines (1.7 m height) before adult emergence. One application per season is sufficient, but an additional round may be needed for extended harvest periods.
2. Apply 500 dispensers per hectare to disrupt mating, with effects lasting up to 3 months.
【Precautions】
1. Apply before adult flight activity begins—earlier rather than later.
2. Hang dispensers in a cross manner according to the number of grapevines per Mu, and hang them on a well-ventilated trellis about 1.7 meters above the middle part of the grapevine or on the shady side of the grapevine.
3. Wear gloves or wash hands with soap when handling different dispensers to avoid cross-contamination.
4. During application, wear masks, gloves, and long sleeves; avoid eating, drinking, or smoking. Wash exposed skin with soap and change clothes afterward.
【Storage Conditions】Store in a cool (0–4°C), dry, ventilated, and rain-proof area away from fire and heat sources.
【Shelf life】2years.
